Due to her growing inability to tell the woman no, Kacey had talked Ava into going to a dive Mexican restaurant that was in her neighborhood. Ava had argued against the choice, telling Kacey that she didn’t do Mexican, thanks to the whole Tito’s incident; but she gave up the fight when she saw how excited Kacey was to take her to the restaurant. As they walked, Kacey told Ava about the margaritas that the restaurant served and how they were the best in the city, and how phenomenal their chimichangas were. Ava couldn’t help but to find her adorable, which was both weird and funny, considering how irritating she could be.

They reached the restaurant and as soon as they walked in an older woman walked over to Kacey. She gave her a big kiss on the cheek then started talking to her in Spanish. Kacey, shocking the hell out of Ava, began to have a conversation with the woman in Spanish. After she chit-chatted with her, the two of them headed to a booth that was in the back of the restaurant. They sat down on the same side and Ava remarked, “This is pretty cozy. A booth in the back.”

Kacey chuckled. “I come here often, and Mrs. Chavez knows I like to eat in quiet so she keeps it open for me.” She grinned at Ava. “What can I say, I’m a fan of Mexican food, and the stuff that Mrs. Chavez serves here is amazing.”

Ava, stunned by this new side of Kacey, chuckled and shook her head. “That’s two more things I didn’t know about you that I’ve learned.” Ava picked up her menu. “I’m surprised you know how to speak Spanish.”

Kacey shrugged. “I picked it up.” The vague answer caused Ava to shoot an irritated look her ways, and Kacey chuckled. “Two more things? What did you already know about me?”

“You’re irritating,” Ava pointed out, without missing a beat.

Kacey situated herself so that she was sitting in the corner of the booth, where the back of the bench seat met the wall. She raised an eyebrow at Ava. “Irritating?” Before she could continue, Mrs. Chavez started walking over to their table carrying a tray that had two large margaritas and couple glasses of water on it. She said something to Kacey, and Kacey responded. Ava had no idea what the two of them were talking about - her Spanish wasn’t the best - but the conversation between them seemed more familial than just friendly. The woman left their table, and Ava took a long drink from her margarita. She could feel the alcohol burn its way down her esophagus, and she began to cough. Ava realized the beverage wasn’t the light drink that she had been expecting. Instead, it was nothing but pure tequila with a little flavor. Kacey reached over and rubbed her back. “You might want to go slow, Sunshine. These things ain’t for the faint of heart.”

Ava took a sip from the glass of water that was in front of her.
